Stuart Palfreyman, 78, of Clifton, passed away surrounded by his loving family on January 20, 2023. Beloved husband of JoAnne (Conserva) for 56 years. Loving father to Scott and his wife Lori, and LeighAnn Kwiecinski and her husband George. Cherished grandfather of Grace and Ava Palfreyman, and Emily, Joseph, and Allison Kwiecinski. Loving brother to Kevin Palfreyman and his wife Linda, and brother-in-law to Tina Zanni and Rae Angela Ruggiero and her husband Rich. Also survived by loving nieces, nephews, and many other family members. Predeceased by his parents Raymond (Don) and Dorothy Palfreyman.
Born in Paterson, Stuart grew up and lived in Clifton most of his life. He met his future wife, JoAnne, at Clifton High School where they graduated in 1962. Stuart attended East Tennessee State University where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in 1966. Upon graduation, Stuart was drafted into the US Army. In 1969, he served as Captain in Vietnam, where he was honored with a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star upon discharge. After arriving home, he returned to East Tennessee State University and earned a Masters of Science degree in Environmental Science. Following his first job in the East Orange Health department, Stuart became Clifton's first Health Officer, where he worked for 23 years. In that position, he established many innovative community programs and services for the city. Stuart finished his career as Health Officer in Summit, NJ, in 2005. In his retirement, Stuart enjoyed countless hobbies including hydroponic gardening, oil painting, fishing, reading, and spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.
Visiting on Saturday, February 4th, 2023 from 1 pm to 4 pm at Marrocco Memorial Chapel - 470 Colfax Avenue, Clifton. Memorial Service/Eulogy starting at 3 pm, Military Funeral Honors to follow.
