Chalupa, Stefan, 91 of Washington, DC formerly of Passaic, NJ passed away on April 23, 2018. Beloved husband to Helena (Ulczak) Chalupa. Loving father to Zenia Chalupa of Wilmington, DE, Zenon Chalupa and his wife Yaryna of Silver Spring, MD and Irena Chalupa and her husband Askold Krushelnycky of Washington DC. Doting grandfather to Maria Chalupa and dear brother to Maria Chalupa of Bytow, Poland.
Stefan was born in Jawirnyk, eastern Poland where he lived through WWII and was imprisoned by the communist authorities for being a member of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army which fought for Ukrainian independence. He came to the United States in 1967 and settled in Passaic. He was a Machine Operator at Zenith Dye Company for 24 years. He was a member and trustee of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, the Ukrainian Center, Ukrainian American Youth Association and the Organization for the Defense of Four Freedoms for Ukraine. Throughout his life, Stefan was a tireless fighter for Ukrainian freedom and independence. He spent his life living honestly, reading voraciously and constantly building things. Stefan was a man who could fix anything. And he could tell many a saucy joke.
Funeral from Marrocco Memorial Chapel – 470 Colfax Avenue, Clifton on Friday at 9:15 AM then to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church at 10 AM. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visiting Thursday 2-4 PM & 7-9 PM. Parastas Thursday at 7:30 PM.
