Giarratano, Salvatore J. M.D., 85 on March 19, 2009 of Wyckoff, New Jersey. Born in New York City on April 20, 1923. Raised in Brooklyn, graduated from New Utrecht HS in 1939, Brooklyn College 1943, Downstate Medical School 1950. Served in the U.S. Army in Europe from 1943-1946 (Battle of the Bulge). Practiced Internal Medicine in Brooklyn from 1954-1971. Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine 1958-1971@ Downstate Medical School. Medical Director R.I.Group Health in Providence, R.I. 1971-1974 Medical Director I.T.T.Corporation, Nutley N.J., 1974-1989. Member of A.M.A, A.C.P, American Society of Occupational Medicine and New Jersey Medical Society. Survived by loving wife of 58 years, Audrey (nee Hennessy), brother Felice Giarratano (Mary), 6 children: Patricia Postle (Ray), Pamela Smith (Steven), Cathy Decosse (Bernard), Michael Giarratano (Martha), Steven Giarratano, D.D.S (Anne), Annmarie Della Pietra (Chris) and 19 Grandchildren: Michael, Pammy, Katie & Samantha Postle; Steven John, Christopher (Rebecca) & Timothy Smith; Ben, Stefan& Jonny Decosse; Paul (Fran), Lisa and Dan Giarratano; Anthony, Emily & Alexa Giarratano; and Kate, Grace and Lily Della Pietra, and also by his faithful pet, Jack. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Downstate Medical College, Clarkson Ave, Brooklyn, NY or The Heritage Manor at the Christian Health Care Center, 301 Sicomac Ave, Wyckoff, NJ 07481. Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday March 21, 2009 at Saint Elizabeth's Church, 700 Wyckoff Ave, Wyckoff, NJ.
