Oscar Tactuk, aged 96, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering devotion to his family.
Born on January 3, 1928, in Moca, Dominican Republic, to Isaias and Sarah Tactuk, Oscar was the youngest of seven siblings. From an early age, he was known for his kindness, wisdom, and generous spirit that would become the cornerstone of his life. In 1956, he married Aida Acosta, the love of his life, with whom he shared 65 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they courageously embraced a new chapter, immigrating to the United States in 1989 in search of the American dream, carrying with them hope, faith, and a deep commitment to providing the best for their family.
Oscar was more than a devoted husband, father, and grandfather—he was the heart and soul of his family. A true patriarch, he was always the first to offer comfort, guidance, or a helping hand, no matter the hour. His warmth and wisdom touched everyone who knew him, and his presence brought a sense of peace and stability to those around him. Oscar’s laughter filled rooms, and his unwavering love for his family was the compass by which he lived.
He leaves behind a rich legacy through his children—Sahara, his late son Oscar Jr., Rafael, Juan, and Zoraida—each of whom carries with them the values and lessons instilled by their father. His 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter will forever carry his memory in their hearts, alongside his extended family and countless friends who were fortunate to know him.
Oscar’s generosity extended far beyond his family. He was a man who believed in helping others and in leaving the world a little better than he found it. To honor his memory, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Save the Children, to support the Dominican Republic, the country that shaped him into the remarkable man he became.
A celebration of Oscar’s life will be held on Sunday, September 15, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Marrocco Memorial Chapel – 470 Colfax Avenue, Clifton, New Jersey 07013. He will be remembered as a pillar of strength, a beacon of love, and a man whose legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
