Mary Marsch, 98, of Clifton passed away peacefully on August 18, 2024. Beloved mother of Helen Marsch, Maryann Marsch-Hoydysh & her husband Walter. Predeceased by her husband, Theodor Marsch and daughter, Lydia Hartford. Missed by her beloved pet, Eddie. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Born in Hoczew, Lisko, Ukraine, Mary was taken from her home and family at the early age of sixteen by the German government to work as a slave on a farm in Germany during World War II. After the war ended, Mary immigrated from Heidelberg Germany to America. In New Jersey, Mary met her beloved husband, Theodor. They married in 1953 and started a family. Scraping dollars together, they built their first home in Passaic. Later moved to Clifton where they built a home again in 1988 and where Mary spent her last days. Mary loved her Ukrainian heritage and spoke about it often. Mary loved gardening and her flowers so much where sometimes tended to the neighbor’s gardens. Mary always welcomed family, friends, and her neighbors.
Mary always worked hard to make sure her family was taken care of and had a good life. She never wavered against any challenges. Her strength and will power were an inspiration to family and friends.
She was a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. When she no longer could physically attend church, she prayed daily and kept everyone in her prayers. Mary leaves behind family and friends who will forever remember the love she brought to them all.
