John G. Tomesco, 90 of Woodland Park, formerly of Elmwood Park and Lavallette, passed away on November 22, 2023.
John was born in Passaic to Fay and Edward Tomesco. Beloved husband of the late Bridget Tomesco (Mazzo). Loving Father to Kathy Lazor Daley and Jim, John Jr. and Donna (D’Elia), Rocco and Lori (Barone), Tom and Kim (Koza). Devoted grandfather to Jaclyn Storms and Brian, Ashley Liguori and Patrick, Brittany Jandoli and Craig, John III and Victoria (Zarrella), Francesca Spinato and Matthew, TJ, and Ryan Tomesco, Adriana Malaszuk and Dustin, Jimmy Daley. Adored great grandfather to Gianna, Christopher, Devin, Connor, Noah, and the late Nicholas Storms. Survived by his cousin and best friend Frank Thomas and Dorothy and dear companion Virginia (Ginny) Molinaro. Dear brother of the late Elizabeth Whitney (Tomesco) and Leonard.
Loving Uncle, Great Uncle, Great Great Uncle to many nieces and nephews and will be missed by all.
John was a Chemical Engineer and worked for Hoffman-La Roche in Nutley for over 30 years. He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War where he received a number of awards and honors. He was a longtime parishioner of St Leo’s in Elmwood Park and coached CYO basketball for more than 10 years. Most recently a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle RC Church in Clifton.
John was an active participant at The Four Seasons of Great Notch where he played poker, bocce’, golf and was a member and past president of the Italian American Club. He was an avid golfer, boater, and fisherman and loved crabbing at the Jersey shore.
Funeral from the Marrocco Memorial Chapel – 470 Colfax Avenue, Clifton on Monday, November 27, 2023 at 9:15 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Philip the Apostle RC Church at 10 AM. Entombment at St. Nicholas Cemetery. Visiting on Sunday, November 26, 2023 from 3 pm to 7 pm.
