Ida Rose Salerno passed on May 11, 2020 after a long illness. She was in the comfort of her home at the time, surrounded by loving family. She was 88.
Ida was born and raised in East Rutherford, NJ, the oldest of the five Magliocchetti children. She helped raise her younger siblings, supported the family business and worked as a dental hygienist before marrying and raising a family. She was an accomplished seamstress for over 75 years. Chances are if you knew her, she had hemmed your pants, made your curtains, altered your jacket or made your dance costume.
In 1965 she married Patrick, her husband of 55 years. In 1967, they moved to Abbe Lane in Clifton where they lived for over 50 years, raised their children, hosted infinite family gatherings and enjoyed a wonderful life with family, neighbors and friends.
Those who knew her will remember her fondly—for welcoming them into our home, for her cooking (including her Christmas cookies and the famous holiday creamed vegetables), her humor, her kindness and most of all her love of chit-chat.
She is survived by her husband, Patrick Salerno, daughters Linda Salerno and Donna Salerno, grandson Cooper Johnson, siblings Anna Ferraro, Lawrence “Sonny” Magliocchetti, Prudy Appell, Claire Hanf and her husband Jeff Hanf, and many nieces and nephews.
Because of current health advisories, services will be private. A memorial service will be held when proper celebration of her life is again possible.
Donations may be made in her name to St. Jude's Children’s Hospital.
