Heather Ann Horritiner Mariso entered eternal rest on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 in Newark, NJ at 68 years of age. She was born on October 14th, 1955 in St. Andrews Parish, Jamaica and immigrated to Brooklyn, NY in 1960. She later moved to Irvington, New Jersey with her son Justin where she was employed at the Newark Museum and later the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City as a guide. Heather attended John Dewey High School in Brooklyn NY and later went on to Queens College where she majored in modern dance. Later in life, at the age of 57, she proudly earned an Associate in Sciences Degree in Paralegal Studies from Essex County College.
Heather is predeceased by her parents Pedro Mariso and Muriel Mariso whose professions as a contractor and nurse taught her perseverance and the value of living authentically. She leaves behind beloved sons Joshua Wingate and Justin Wingate, a grandson MJ Wingate, siblings Hanson Morand, Hillarey Scott-Morand, Phillip Mariso and Richard Mariso, nieces Monique Carpenter, Nia Mariso, Candace Mariso, nephews Sean Scott, Zeus Morand, Kwakou Robinson along with countless family friends who often referred to her as Auntie H.
Amongst many things, Heather, affectionately known to her siblings as Rosie, will be remembered for being a fashionista along with an endless passion for music which she carried in her heart. She never hesitated to hit the dance floor at any family gathering. She will be dearly missed.
Visiting will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023 from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Marrocco Memorial Chapel – 470 Colfax Avenue, Clifton. Cremation services will be held privately.
