Ernestine Williams entered her sunset on December 13, 2019.
She was born on December 5th, 1935 to Edward and Mamie Walker in
St. Matthews South Carolina.
Ernestine united in holy matrimony to Sam Williams, also of St. Matthews .
From their blessed union, they brought a son, Stanley, into the world.
Sam Williams entered his sunset three weeks after Stanley’s birth in February 1966.
Ernestine relocated her family to Manhattan in New York City where she raised Stanley as a single mother. While facing those challenges and in addition to working as a nurse at Bellevue Hospital, she was able to attain a degree in nursing, eventually becoming a registered nurse in 1977. Ernestine continued to work at Bellevue until her retirement in 1996.
In 1966, she fulfilled her dream and returned “home” to St. Matthew’s where she enjoyed the company of her Mother, brothers, in-laws and nieces and nephews.
While in retirement, Ernestine volunteered for various causes, especially working with the elderly in and around St. Matthew’s.
Despite what life put in her way, she was incredibly strong, compassionate and found a way to show love, especially to Stanley and his family. She will be missed.
Ernestine is survived by her son Stanley, daughter-in-law Jodie and grandchildren, Samuel, Chloe and Zali, all of Clifton New Jersey as well as a host of relatives and friends.
