Effrossini Doris (Syntrikos) of Clifton passed away on Nov. 18, 2020 at the age of 84. Effrossini was born in Sanga, Greece on October 13, 1936 to the late Andreas and Ioanna Syntrikos (née Vasilopoulos). Throughout her life she embodied the values we recognize in Greek as: philotimo, philoxenia, and agapi. Philotimo: a love of honor and a commitment to family and community; philoxenia: her door was always open to everyone and anyone who needed help; and agapi: love for her family, her friends, and everyone around her. She lived these values every day, passing them down to her children and grandchildren and reminding them through her example that nothing is more important in life.
She was the wife of the late Savvas Doris. They married in 1962 and then, in 1982, emigrated with their children to the United States, settling in Clifton, NJ.
Effrossini is survived by her loving children Dimitrios (Jimmy) Doris and Panagiota Dimitratos (née Doris) and her son-in-law, Gerasimos (Jerry) Dimitratos. Adored grandmother of Katerina, Andreas, and Savvas Dimitratos. Devoted sister of Dimitrios Syntrikos, George Syntrikos, Katerina Smirniotakis, Vasilios Syntrikos, Konstandina Kougias and the late Georgia Kallianos, all of Greece.
She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Effrossini was a parishioner of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Clifton, NJ. She inspired and motivated many people, most notably her children and grandchildren. She was highly involved, attending all after-school programs and extracurricular activities, making sure her support was always known. She will be remembered for many things, but three characteristics particularly stand out -- her generous hospitality for those who visited her home, her ability to make those around her laugh, and her immense strength, even up until her last breath. These traits were the essence of her heart, often noted by even those who knew her during her younger years.
