Domenic J. De Benedetto

September 15, 1914 — January 19, 2010

De Benedetto, Domenic J., 95, died January 19, 2010. He was born in Orange, NJ where he resided for 38 years then moved to Clifton and lived there for 20 years before moving to Florida where he lived 20 years, he moved back to Clifton in 2001. An Army Veteran of WWII he worked on the Manhattan Project at Los Alamos, New Mexico for the Atom Bomb Project, and also as a civilian installing airports in Bermuda. He was Vice President of the NJ Democratic Party, Honorary VP of Rutgers University, New Brunswick and Chairman of the Tri State Labor Management of the AFLCIO. He retired in 1985 after 40 years as Vice President of the International Leather Plastic and Novelty Workers Union in New York City. He is survived by his daughter Rosalie Soccol and her husband Michael of Clifton, three grandchildren Louie, R.J. and Anthony De Stefano, and seven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Ella Esposito, and his second wife Agnes Wallent. He is also survived by one sister Londie Gigantelli of Tannersville, PA and two brothers Ralph De Benedetto of Jackson, NJ and Michael De Benedetto of Homosassa, Florida. Funeral from Marrocco Memorial Chapel 470 Colfax Avenue Clifton on Saturday at 9:15 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Philip the Apostle RC Church at 10 AM. Entombment Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover. Visiting Friday 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
