Kody, Barry John, 65, of Jefferson Township, passed away suddenly on August 7 after a brief illness. Barry lived in Garfield most of his life and graduated from Garfield High School in 1969. He attended the Teterboro School of Aeronautics where he received his Flight Mechanic’s license before purchasing ad operating Barry’s Sunoco on Plauderville Avenue. He was a member of Garfield Fire Company # 5 where he served as the engineer.
Barry became a member of the Garfield Police Force in 1985 and served as Captain of the Garfield Police Pistol Team. He was a highly decorated officer and attained the rank of Sergeant. He retired in 2010.
His wife Jane and his twin brother Stephen predeceased him. He is survived by his loving sisters, Jane Kody Zorrilla and Mary Kody Janesak and her husband Charles, nieces Chrissy D’Angelo, Tracy Bogdanski, and Veronica Zorrilla, nephew Sean Kody, great nephews Charlie, Jeremy, Tyler and Shane D’Angelo and Kody and Kayden Bogdanski and great niece Amelia Bogdanski.
